Welcome to itmighthavebeen.com
"It Might Have Been" is the title of a short poem by John Greenleaf Whittier...
"For of all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: 'It might have been!'"
OK, I'll be the first to admit that I have little use for poetry, and itmighthavebeen.com wasn't
my first choice for a web site name. Unfortunately, cyber-squatters
have vacummed up practically every *.com I could think of, so I had to
take what I could get. I feel lucky to have found a name that
wasn't just a random collection of numbers, letters and symbols like 5%$bn#!0lZ*-!M?+7.com - or has that one already been taken too?
All that having been said, I have to respect John Greenleaf Whittier.
Sounds like an eternal pessimist, a viewpoint I can relate to. And who can blame
JGW for having a sour attitude? I'll bet he never forgave his parents for calling him Greenleaf.
Can you imagine going through high school with a name like that? I
wouldn't be surprised if he became a poet just to spite mom and dad,
who probably wanted him to become a dentist (note that dentists have
the highest suicide rate of any profession).
Incidentally, Canadian guitarist Neil Young took a leaf out of Greenleaf and wrote a popular song, It Might Have Been,
in the 1970s. Nowadays, you can even download it as a ringtone. JGW is
in no position to complain (or sue for copyright infringment) seeing
how he died in 1892.
OK, I'll leave JGW alone - may he rest in peace. I thank him for inspiring the name of my web site. As for itmighthavebeen.com,
it's just a hobby, a place where I show off some of my photos,
demonstrate my Internet skills, and where I elucidate my wisdom, charm
and paranoid delusions. It's meant to be light
entertainment for those with too much time on their hands, which will
no doubt include an ever-growing number of unemployed people as the
world's economy circles the drain. I just hope you'll all be able to
afford your Internet connection so that you can visit whenever you
like.
Smile. Every day above ground is a good day.
